To heal the city through the contamination of its elements: the concept for the new primary school “Mario Lodi” in Matelica. In the attempt to intersect the main infrastructural axes and green areas, the school campus replans the small segment of the city in which it rises. Intelligence and simplicity are the leading forces in this design. The volumes shape within the lot to provide the best orientation for the indoor locations, while holding, at the same time, the fundamental connection between indoor garden and urban park. The different volumes mimic the existing buildings and reveal an indoor space that is tailor made for kids, a strategy that encourages a sense of belonging in the young pupils towards the locations of the school. The idea of a “landscape for learning” replaces that of the traditional classroom: a “fluid” school where didactic areas are consistently connected. The design proposal moreover, engages with a multitude of solutions regarding the NBS and SUDS, giving life to a resilient pole and a sustainable one for the economical and social life of the community.
