“Design Temporariness” wins the YouBuild Award for Innovation in Construction Processes

“Design Temporariness” wins the YouBuild Award for Innovation in Construction Processes

At the latest edition of Lucca Biennale Cartasia 2024 (LuBiCa), the installation “Design Temporariness”, created by ATI Project, materieunite and Material Balance Research from Politecnico di Milano, garnered significant attention for its ability to combine technological innovation and sustainability. Today, the installation has been awarded the YouBuild prize in the “Innovative Construction Processes” category.

Using cardboard as its primary material, Design Temporariness offers a completely new perspective on temporary architecture. Shifting the focus away from the longevity of structures, the installation demonstrates that even ephemeral constructions can have a substantial environmental and cultural impact, thanks to advanced technologies and circular design. The structure, lightweight yet sturdy, is built with modules connected through a friction-based system that ensures stability without the need for adhesives or complex joints. This approach is not only a testament to technical innovation but also a model of applied sustainability: every element is designed to be easily dismantled and recycled.

The YouBuild award is an important recognition for ATI Project, Materieunite, and Material Balance Research. The project is not just an installation but a tangible example of how advanced technologies and circular approaches can pave new pathways in architecture and construction, fostering sustainable, innovative, and highly impactful solutions.
