Description
When an architecture and engineering firm designs its own workspace, theory becomes practice. It is the ultimate chance to turn design philosophy into a living, breathing manifesto. That is the driving force behind ATI Project’s new headquarters, occupying the top seven floors of the North Tower – a workspace rooted in well-being and custom-built around the daily needs of the 200-plus professionals in the Pisa office.
Daylight dictates the design. By swapping solid walls for fully glazed balustrades, the project strips away visual barriers to pull natural light deep into the floor plates. This approach maximizes indoor comfort while framing uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape, actively boosting the visual well-being of everyone in the space.
The layout flows outward from a central circulation core, splitting the workspaces into two distinct yet complementary wings.
The north side tracks the building’s curved facade, opening up into a collaborative, networking-focused open plan.
In contrast, the south wing is all about focus, dynamically balancing shared zones, quiet private offices, and modular meeting rooms.
Up on the thirteenth floor, the strategy shifts. The entire northern sweep is reserved for executive and reception spaces, where transparent glass walls become a physical expression of the firm’s open culture and identity.
Color doubles as navigation. Each of the seven floors features a dedicated color gradient to identify different departments, making wayfinding intuitive and keeping the vibe fresh. Bold, high-contrast accents define the social and breakout zones, while the main workstations lean into neutral finishes and light gray floors, letting the furniture supply the vivid pops of color.
Overhead, exposed ceilings reveal the raw texture of metal decking and MEP networks. It is a deliberate, character-driven nod to the building’s technical complexity – monitored by a smart BMS – that elevates core engineering into a striking architectural feature.
Outside, perimeter terraces on every single floor offer an instant escape from the desk. Combined with cozy, book-filled lounges, a spacious cafeteria, and a rooftop terrace, the headquarters acts as a vibrant social hub – enriching the daily routine while driving well-being, collaboration, and inspiration.
