Description
The New Eco-District of the Bertalia-Lazzaretto neighborhood in Bologna represents a model of an eco-sustainable, connected, and resilient community, capable of meeting the city’s housing and sustainability needs. It is not just a residential project, but an urban ecosystem that fosters socio-community vitality, with multifunctional public spaces designed to serve both new residents and the local community. Sustainability is supported by innovative solutions, with shared spaces for well-being and socialization, strengthening identity and a sense of belonging.
The project includes the creation of a cycle-pedestrian greenway that directly connects various areas of the city, from the Pescarola neighborhood to the north, to the new residential hub west of the University of Bologna, extending to the city center. This green route promotes sustainable mobility by reducing reliance on private transportation and encouraging cycling and walking, practices that contribute to both sustainability and the well-being of residents.
The new residential volumes are characterized by a diversification of heights and materials, inspired by Bologna’s architectural tradition, yet with a modern and sustainable vision. The colorful facades and varying heights of the blocks create an inviting and dynamic architectural language that harmoniously blends with the existing urban fabric, fostering the creation of a strong sense of place.
The common spaces are designed to encourage sharing and social interaction among residents, with shared balconies and terraces that become meeting points. On the ground floor, courtyards and recreational areas help extend community life outdoors, while rooftop terraces offer vertical productive landscapes, integrating nature into the residential environment.
The New Eco-District of Bologna is part of a broader vision for urban regeneration and sustainable mobility, with the aim of improving the quality of life for residents and reducing the city’s environmental impact. In this context, the New Eco-District is not simply a residential expansion, but a model of a resilient and eco-sustainable community capable of addressing the challenges of the future.
